Pembroke Welsh Corgi Sports
Traveling Gypsy Corgis takes immense pride in being a kennel dedicated to the versatility of dog sports. Our fervor for these activities stems from the sheer joy of witnessing our dogs engage in work, problem-solving, and thoroughly enjoying the diverse range of activities they partake in. At TGC, our dogs actively participate in an array of dog sports, each offering unique challenges and fostering a strong bond between our four-legged companions and their handlers.
Barn Hunt:
Barn Hunt is an engaging dog-led sport where the primary objective is for dogs to locate one or more rats within a strategically designed straw course. This includes climbing obstacles and maneuvering through tunnels within a specified time limit. The sport offers various levels of difficulty, ranging from novice to master, ensuring a dynamic and evolving experience for both dogs and handlers.
Rally Obedience:
Rally Obedience is a structured obedience sport that incorporates fun and engaging exercises for dogs and their handlers. After mastering individual exercises, teams navigate through a course setting under a specific time constraint, earning points based on performance. Precision and correct execution of exercises are crucial, with the ultimate goal of achieving a score of 60 or more points to qualify. Each Rally Obedience organization has its unique set of rules and point systems, adding depth and variety to the sport.
Urban Ratting:
Similar to Barn Hunt, Urban Ratting involves dogs navigating through a course designed like an alleyway, with an emphasis on finding rats. Unlike Barn Hunt, there is no climbing involved. Both of these sports are humanely designed, ensuring the safety of the rats within secure tubes or tackle boxes, providing an ethical and challenging environment for the participating canines.
Scent Detection (Nose Work):
Scent Detection, also known as Nose Work, is a captivating dog-led sport where dogs utilize their olfactory prowess to search for specific odors and locate hidden scents within a designated time frame. The hides can be placed at ground level or elevated up to 6 to 7 feet, adding an extra layer of complexity. With levels ranging from beginners to elite (Championship level), this sport offers an exciting and accessible entry point for all dogs.
Shed Antler Hunting:
Shed Antler Hunting is a thrilling dog-led sport that involves sending a dog into a field to search for and retrieve antlers. The goal is to bring the antler back to the handler within a specified time frame. This sport not only showcases a dog’s natural instincts but also strengthens the bond between the dog and its handler as they work together to accomplish the task at hand.
