Health Concerns with the Pembroke Corgi Breed

Degenerative Myelopathy (DM) – All our breeding pairs are tested

DM is a progressive, incurable, disease of the central nervous system, causing gradual loss of mobility and feeling to the limbs. Affected animals may first experience paralysis in their hind limbs, then to their forelimbs.

Von Willebrand’s disease (Vwd) – All our breeding pairs are tested

Von Willebrand disease (VWD) is a blood disorder in which the blood doesn’t clot properly. Blood contains many proteins that help the body stop bleeding. One of these proteins is called von Willebrand factor (VWF). Animals with VWD either have a low level of VWF in their blood or the VWF protein doesn’t work properly.

Exercise-Induced Collapse (EIC) – All our breeding pairs are tested

Dogs affected by EIC are perfectly normal most of the time and it is impossible for an owner or a veterinarian to determine that there is anything wrong with them. They may, however, experience episodes of collapse when they participate in strenuous activities that they find exciting or stressful, especially in warm weather.
